The Abstraction of Perspective

"Perspective is perception of depth - Abstraction is creating realities deprived of all realism"

Jonathan Berkh

The approach to creation and production as well as Jonathan's life motto is the Abstraction of Perspective.

Within this work and life philosophy of his he defines:

Perspective as perception of depth and

Abstraction as creating realities deprived of all realism.

Perspective - the appearance of viewed objects with regard to their relative position; a sense of expansion; regarding objects in relation to position and distance from the viewer; the sense of existence in space before the eye; the relation of two figures in the same plane, a point of view, a state of mind; the understanding that things are of relative importance - the perception of depth in anything; thought, view, space, surface, idea, word, ...

Abstraction - is the quality of dealing with ideas rather than events, in thought, view, space, surface, idea, life experience, word, ... anything. It is something visionary and/or unrealistic; absence of preoccupation; the process of considering something independently of this associations or attributes, something that only exists as an idea; taking away layers to get to an essence - creating a reality deprived of all realism.

Structure and Movement define the performing arts of dance. One only can move freely when fully accepting the structures of technique and choreography. The physical movement of body in dance is a very important part that Jonathan kept from this time and that he fully incorporates in his work as an artist.

Structure - chaos, creativity, places, technique, rules, thoughts, ideas, respect, tolerance, acceptance, inspirational elements in archictural-, urban- and natural landscapes.

Movement - allowing existence, bodies, thoughts, ideas, techniques, elements, spaces, objects, relations, positions, views, minds, importances ... to freely change places and perspectives.

As a counterpoint to abstractionism Jonathan is very fond of the philosophies of stoicism and pragmatism. Stoicism defines his work process - serenity, freedom of inclinations and affects, characterised by rationalism and determinism. Pragmatism is doing what needs to be dome. As much as stoicism and pragmatism are only regarding facts they lead to new perspectives on abstraction.

"Abstraction of Perspective represents my overall work perfectly. I want to create paintings which accent different parts, different levels of depth, depending on the perspective of the consumer.

While creating and perceiving various kinds of depths by putting structures in relative perspectives in the abstract realities of my works, never ending movement ist created"
